Moydow's The Pillar Box Drama Group are returning to the stage with a laugh packed show that is sure to please. This year the group present a production of Jimmy Keary's 'The Maiden Aunt'.
The play tells the story of Gertie O’Grady, a retired teacher and spinster, who comes to stay with her niece, Mary Murphy, after a spell in hospital. Mary tries to persuade her aunt to make a will. When Gertie apparently ‘dies’, Mary’s husband, Dan comes up with an elaborate plan to get their hands on her money.
“We are going pretty good. We are rehearsing away and we are hopeful of another successful production,” Chairperson of the The Pillar Box Drama Group Adam Quinn told The Leader, “It's a cast of eight, four men and four women. They are pretty much all locals.”
Directed by Linda Dowler the show has great comedic action. Adam says the local community have a great appetite for drama: “We generally sell out. It's very unusual to see an empty seat.
“It creates a bit of a buzz in the parish and indeed in the surrounding parishes. It's well received across the board. It is a good night's entertainment. We'd advise people to get tickets early as they tend to sell out very fast.”
The show will run from Thursday, March, 30 until Sunday, April 2 in Moydow Community Centre and promises to be a great night of laughter and entertainment.
Tickets costing €10 are available at the Moydow Community Centre after 7:30pm and after mass in St Mary's Church, keep an eye on newsletter, local notes and Facebook page for information.
