Drama aplenty as The Carnival comes to Longford!

The Legan drama group's production is directed by Vanessa Galligan

As the Bea Masterson Drama Group are concluding their rehearsal schedule for The Carnival of Glenaduff the director says the cast are raring to go.

The Legan drama group's production of the Padraic McIntyre play is directed by Vanessa Galligan.

Set in Glenduff, County Cavan in the 1960s, ‘The Carnival’ is a humorous and entertaining insight into the psyche of a small community as it prepares for this year’s carnival which is headed up by rising stars Jack High and the Four Aces.

In the midst of the excitement it emerges that a young girl, Ann Boyle fell pregnant at last year’s carnival and refuses to say who the father is. Rumours abound and one man in particular is earmarked – John Joe Brady. When John Joe finds out about his supposed fatherhood, he is bewildered and annoyed. Despite this, he must face the wrath of Ann’s brothers, the troublesome ‘Boyle Boys’.

With 28 characters, the play superbly unfolds into a myriad of subplots. From Andy’s quest to win the heart of Sinead Reilly using the ‘Rule of Three’, to Sadie's attempts to clean up her man Mattie; the storylines twist, turn and intertwine leaving the audience thoroughly entertained.

Although there are many many humorous sections to this play, one of the most uplifting scens observes  the cast queuing outside the carnival. Sadie, Agnes, Sheila and Mary  talk amongst themselves and their sharp wit coupled with superb timing will leave the audience rolling with laughter in their seats.

Director Vanessa says the group are really looking forward to taking to the stage: “We have had some great rehearsals and the play is looking very good. It is a fun play and the cast have really enjoyed playing with that and will really bring fun to the audience. We always get great support from the local audiences and we can't wait for them to see it.”

Legan Bea Masterson Drama Group presents The Carnival of Glenaduff by Padraic McIntyre from Thursday March 23, to Sunday, March 26 at the Aurora Hall, Legan. Shows start at 8pm.
