Longford County Council is set to honour the achievements of All Ireland winning Longford Slashers ladies football team and Cnoc Mhuire students in Granard who scooped the Junk Kouture World design champions award.
At the January meeting of the local authority members unanimously agreed to officially recognise the achievements of all involved with the All Ireland and World triumphs with a civic reception on March 3.
Longford Slashers Senior ladies Football team won their historic All Ireland title in December. The match marked the first All Ireland win for a Longford ladies club side, following their victory over Mullinahone.
The civic reception will also celebrate the international success of Granard students Solomon Eduard and Joshua Osabuehien, who were crowned World Designer of the Year at the first ever Junk Kouture World Final in Abu Dhabi earlier this month.
The Cnoc Mhuire students got top spot in Junk Koture with a design called 'Back to the Future', made from old shower mats, an old laundry basket, an aerial, car wipers and tubing from an old tractor tyre.
Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council, Turlough McGovern said it's an honour to celebrate such wonderful local achievements. “It was great to propose a civic reception for the all conquering Slashers ladies football team and the Cnoc Mhuire Granard students.”
