Longford County Council confirmed that the two speed ramps located at Templemichael Glebe - which have been a source of many complaints since they were installed by a contractor hired by Templemichael College - have not yet been reduced to the standard size.

Two speed ramps that have caused considerable anger among motorists, and in some cases, damage to vehicles, have not yet been reduced to the standard size, Longford County Council today confirmed for The Longford Leader.

The corrective work was originally scheduled to take place last month, however a further issue has since emerged with the existing drainage line in the road, which the council says must be rectified before the ramps can be readjusted.

Complaints about the ramps were first brought before the council during the September meeting of the Longford Municipal District when Cllr Niall Gannon asked the Senior Executive Engineer Peter Brady if anything could be done about their height.

In response Mr Brady agreed the ramps were “not standard” and explained that the contractor responsible had not been hired by the council but rather by Templemichael College. He said at the time that the council had met with the contractor the week prior to the meeting and that it was agreed they (the contractor) would return to “reconfigure and redo the ramps at the two locations.”

The ‘Leader can today report however that this work remains outstanding following the emergence of a second issue.

Longford County Council explained, “The corrective action has not yet been completed.”

“Before the ramps can be readjusted, a new issue has been identified with the existing drainage line in the road.”

“This issue must be rectified before the ramp readjustment works can proceed. Longford County Council is currently liaising with the contractor carrying out the extension works at Templemichael College to address this matter.”
