Past pupil of Longford school captains Republic of Ireland U-21s in Euro qualifier

Congratulations to St Mel’s College, Longford past pupil James Abankwah who captained the Republic of Ireland U-21s in their Euro qualifier against Andorra last week.

A great achievement — well done James! You are an inspiration to all our soccer players here in St Mel's College. 

James, plays as a defender for EFL Championship club Watford on loan from Serie A club Udinese. 

As a youngster, James played for local club Melview FC, where he also represented Longford at the prestigious Kennedy Cup youth tournament at Under-14 level in 2016.
