Hampered by the shoulder injury he sustained in the recent US Open, Longford swimming star Darragh Greene was not at full speed in the Irish National Winter Short Course Championships at the Sport Ireland National Aquatic Centre.
After finishing second in the 100m Breaststroke final on Thursday, Greene (clocking up 2:11.76) had to be content with another silver medal as Eoin Corby (National Centre Limerick) doubled up on Breaststroke wins, almost breaking Uiseann Cooke’s Irish Record of 2:06.81 to win the Men’s 200m Final in 2:06.86 on Friday last.
Due to his troublesome shoulder strain, Darragh was forced to withdraw from the 50m Breaststroke event on the final day of the Irish National Winter Short Course Championships on Saturday.
Darragh will be heading off to Sierra Nevada, Spain on December 28 with a number of the other elite Irish swimmers for three weeks of warm weather training in the build up to the World Championships in Japan next summer where he will be competing in the 100m and 200m Breaststroke events.
