Longford Athletics Club rising stars were out in force last weekend when they competed at the Connacht Juvenile Indoor Championships at the TUS Midlands Campus in Athlone.
The club had a very successful weekend with a fantastic tally of medals, and some very strong performances from prospective future medal winners.
First up were our u12 & u13 athletes who competed on Saturday. There were fantastic performances from all, with the club securing 8 individual medals and two relay team medals. Medal winners were John Fitzpatrick Jnr gold in the boys u12 shot putt & u12 high jump; Leah Waters gold in the u12 girls high jump; Izzy Masterson gold in the u13 girls 60m; Oisin Dillon silver in the boys U13 600m, Sophia Carey silver in the girls u13 60m; Rian McCaffrey bronze in U13 boys high jump; Sinead Masterson bronze in the girls u13 high jump; Sophia Carey, Sinead Fitzsimons, Alisha Manning & Sinead Masterson silver in the girls u13 girls 4x 200 metre relay; and Leah Waters, Isobel O’Farrell, Sophia Smith & Sarah Connolly bronze in the u12 girls 4x200 relay.
On Sunday it was the turn of the older juveniles and they didn’t disappoint when they added 6 individual medals and 2 relay medals to the previous day’s tally. Medal winners were Emma Brennan gold in the u15 girls 800m; Funmi Talabi silver in the u18 girls 60m and the 200m; Robin Óg Murphy bronze in the u15 girls walk; Jack Gallagher bronze in the u19 boys 800m; Ella Duignan bronze in the u14 girls high jump; Aibhe Foley, Robin Óg Murphy Mia Kiernan & Emma Brennan bronze in the u15 girls relay; and Bea Casey, Sian Gallagher, Katie Duignan & Amy Jordan bronze in the u17 girls relay.
