Longford soccer star Michaela Hand who has been selected for the Republic of Ireland Women U-17 squad for the Euro Championship Qualifiers
Another of Longford’s rising young soccer stars Michaela Hand from Kenagh is heading to Spain with Ireland’s U-17 Women’s squad for the European Championship Round 1 Qualifiers.
Michaela, who plays at underage level for Athlone Town in the National League, is a member of the Irish squad of 20 players who will be in action against Spain, Austria and Denmark with the opening fixture against the host nation on Thursday November 14.
The Girls in Green have recently played five games - against Northern Ireland, Portugal & Cymru - to prepare for these Group A6 games and have been clicking well.
Head Coach James Scott knows the challenge to advance further in this competition will be difficult after being drawn into a difficult group, but it is a task that his players and support staff will embrace.
Scott will have Stephanie Zambra as part of his coaching staff as she starts on the Player to Coach Programme that was recently introduced as part of the Football Pathways Plan.
The squad includes players who helped Shelbourne and Shamrock Rovers win the EA SPORTS LOI WU19 & WU17 Cups respectively, while Athlone Town's Maeve Wollmer featured in both of those Finals as well as the Sports Direct Women's FAI Cup Final.
