Darragh Greene (second from right) and the other members of Ireland's 4x100 Medley relay team who have qualified for the World Final
Longford’s Breaststroke star Darragh Greene and Ireland's 4x100m Medley Relay team have qualified for the final at the World Aquatics Championship in Doha, Qatar this Sunday evening (5.37pm Irish time) after producing an outstanding performance in their heat earlier this morning.
Darragh, along with Conor Ferguson, Max McCusker and Shane Ryan have confirmed a first World Long Course Relay Final for Ireland following the fantastic swim of 3:34.94 in finishing 4th in their heat and 8th overall in a major achievement with both Australia and China missing out in a big shock.
Speaking after the race Greene said ‘A world final is literally what everyone is working towards, dreaming of, which is huge for us, individually, and as a group, it’s absolutely class.’
The team are now 15th in Paris rankings which would be within the top 16 required for the 4x100m Medley relay event at the Olympic Games this summer. The combined Top-16 times from Doha and the 2023 World Championships in Japan are considered for invitations.
Still some work to do, with two Olympic Qualification Times (OQT) required from the team in order to accept the place if an invitation is received.
