Longford Fianna Fáil candidate Michael Connellan withdraws from local election race

Longford Municipal District Fianna Fáil candidate Michael Connellan has this evening announced that he is withdrawing from the May 24 local election race citing a change in personal circumstances as the reason.
He released a statement via his Facebook page: "My personal circumstances have changed since having accepted the nomination from the Fianna Fáil party, hence this difficult decision."
Mr Connellan, who previously served as a Longford Town councillor, was selected on the five-person FF ticket to contest the seven seat Longford MD election.

Thanking his supporters, Mr Connellan said, "It truly was an honour to represent the people of Longford Town and to follow in my mother's (Paddie Connellan) footsteps. I wish Remu Adejinmi, Martin Monaghan, Cllr Joe Flaherty and Cllr Seamus Butler the very best in the forthcoming May Local Elections."
