Large crowds continue to attend the weekly Novena on Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm in St. Mary’s Church Granard. Everyone encouraged to come along and take part in this prayerful time.
Members travelling to Longford on Thursday evening please meet at the Community Centre at 4.30pm. The guild’s next meeting will take place at Granard Credit Union Seminar Room on Thursday, 3rd December at 8pm. A Bring and Buy Sale with a Christmas Theme will take place and members are requested to bring along a small item for the sale. Supper will be served. New members are very welcome to come along.
Open evening and enrolment for September 2016 takes place on this Thursday, 26 November from 7pm to 9pm at Cnoc Mhuire Secondary School Granard. Granard Community Playgroup are holding their annual Breakfast Morning in Granard Farmers Mart on Sunday morning next the 29th November from 9am to 1pm A lovely social morning to be enjoyed and a great breakfast to be had €7 for breakfast €20 for family. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Longford Town I.C.A. guild are holding an Afternoon Tea Dance in the Temperance Hall, Longford on Sunday, 29th November from 3pm to 6pm. Music by The Ramblers. Admission €10. Tea and coffee will be served. Tickets available from Maura Sheridan.

Granard Area Action Group are holding their annual Table Quiz in Fay’s Bar on Friday, 4th December at 9pm. This is a well established fun event and always an enjoyable night. Granard Area Action Group are sponsors of the local Community Employment Project in the parishes of Abbeylara Granard and Mullinalaghta and Bunlahy village. Participants also assist in Lus na Greine FRC; Rath Mhuire Resource Centre and Dolmen Services ; Adult Learning Centre Granard; St. Mary’s GAA Complex; St. Columba’s G.A.A.; Pitch & Putt Club Granard. This yearly fundraiser helps to defray costs of sponsoring the project. As this is the only public fundraising held during the year the group will greatly appreciate the support of all local community groups and sub-sponsors.
Ballymore Ladies GAA
Ballymore ladies football club will hold there AGM on Saturday the 28th of November at 5.30pm in Killeen national school. New members are most welcome, anyone wishing to come on board and help with the running of the club for the 2016 season should attend the meeting.
Keep Saturday night, 5th December free and come along to The Boomerang Lounge in Granard, where acclaimed poet Noel Monahan will launch a book of Short Stories by local author Thomas Kiernan formerly of Granard. The book is entitled American Cousin and is Thomas’s third book. Finger food and wine on the night and everybody invited. We look forward to seeing you there.
A Community Diary for 2016 is now available at Granard Area Action Group Information Office Main Street Granard. Groups and Organisations are requested to log their events in good time so as to avoid clashing and the duplicating of events.
Bingo continues each Wednesday night at the Community Centre, Granard commencing at 8.45pm. Jackpot stands at €20,000 in 42 calls or less. The second Jackpot is €3,500 in 49 calls or less. Your continued support is appreciated. Proceeds go to Abbeylara and St. Mary’s G.A.A. clubs.
Calling on local businesses and craft people. The traditional Christmas Market will take place on Sunday, 6th December from 2 to 5pm. Everyone welcome on the day. We will also have our unique Live Crib and switching on of Christmas lights and of course Santa will arrive. Exhibitors are required to set up their own stall and have their own insurance cover. Siopa Lus na Greine
Our Siopa is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 10am – 5pm. Thank you for your continued support. We welcome your cast offs, bric –a – brac etc. these can be dropped into An Siopa. All proceeds from An Siopa go directly to the Centre to fund projects in the Community. If anyone has any old Cnoc Mhuire Jumpers please drop them into Lus na Gréine FRC or Siopa Lus na Gréine.
Granard Country Markets continue every Friday morning from 8.30am to 11.00 am in the Motte Project premises (opposite Kearney’s Garage). They are now taking orders for Christmas Cakes, Puddings Cards etc. They also have the usual supply of homemade bread and cakes, crafts, country eggs and firewood in stock and they look forward to meeting all their patrons and thank them for their loyal support.
The death of Peter (Petie) Columb, Carragh, Granard occurred at Tullamore Hospital following a brief illness on Wednesday, 18 November. His body reposed at his late residence on Thursday; removal took place to St. Mary’s Church, Carragh on Friday evening. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday at 12 noon followed by burial in adjoining cemetery. May he rest in peace. Sympathy is extended to his wife Ann; daughters Breda and Andrea; sons Peter and Brian; grandchildren; sons-in-law; daughters-in-law; his sister and extended family circle.
The death of Mary White occurred peacefully at her residence in Barrack Street on Wednesday, 18 November. Removal took place to St. Mary’s Church, Granard on Thursday morning for 9.30am funeral Mass. Sympathy is extended to her relatives and friends. May she rest in peace.
