Winners and results announced for county Longford in SuperValu Tidy Towns 2025 competition

Longford TidyTowns were winners of the Midlands & East region Waters and Communities Award

Numerous areas in county Longford performed admirably in the SuperValu Tidy Towns 2025 competition with
Abbeyshrule taking home the Gold Medal in the county and Longford town winning a prestigious national honour.

Longford TidyTowns were winners of the Midlands & East region Waters and Communities Award (sponsored by Inland Fisheries Ireland, Waterways Ireland and the Local Authority Waters Programme) and they receive a €1,000 prize for this.

Abbeyshrule, the overall national winner in 2012, was adjudged to be the tidiest area in county Longford and they claimed the 'County First & Gold Medal' prize and accumulated 392 marks.

Longford town was the runner up and won the 'County Second & Gold Medal with 383 marks, while Newtowncashel, the overall national winner in 1980, took third place and the 'Bronze Medal' in county Longford in 2025 with 382 marks.

Other local areas which were recognised included Drumlish who claimed a Bronze Medal with 376 marks, Ballymahon who achieved an 'Endeavour Award' with 305 marks.

The results for all of the areas in county Longford are as follows:

Category A

Abbeyshrule -392 marks -County First & Gold Medal, Newtowncashel (382 marks) -County Third & Bronze Medal, Derryhaun (318 marks), Mullinalaghta (318 marks), Taghshinny (291 marks), Colehill (276 marks), Stonepark (276 marks), Barry (244 marks).

Category B

Newtownforbes -(365 marks), Cullyfad Village (355 marks), Clondra (349 marks), Kenagh (347 marks), Legan Village (344 marks), Ardagh (338 marks), Abbeylara (334 marks), Ballinamuck (329 marks), Lisryan (313 marks), Killashee (290 marks), Carrickboy (281 marks), Ballinalee (276 marks), Moydow (262 marks).

Category C

Drumlish (376 marks), Ballymahon (305 marks).

Category D

Lanesborough (361 marks), Edgeworthstown (352 marks).

Category F

Longford Town (383 marks).
