Work experience
The Transition Year students started their work experience on Friday last. They have tried to get work experience in areas of interest for their future careers. This is an excellent opportunity for these students and we wish them luck in their various posts.
Garda Band concert
Some of our Transition Year students participated and helped out at the Granard Community Garda band concert. An excellent time was had by all who attended and we commend the TY students who were involved.
Business speaker
On Tuesday, September 24, Ms Stephons organised a Business speaker for the TY classes. Martina Glennon from Optimum Events, sent on behalf of Longford County Enterprise Board spoke to the TY students. She gave the students advice on how to set up their own mini-companies. We wish the TYs luck in their mini-companies and hope they can match the success of last year’s groups.
Agricultural Science trip
On Thursday last the fifth and sixth year Agricultural Science students travelled to the National Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska. In an effort to beat the traffic we departed at 7.30am. The students were extremely impressed with all the displays. They gathered invaluable resources for their Leaving Cert projects. Thanks to Ms Hannon for all her work in organising this trip.
First year boys football blitz
The first year boys accompanied by Mr Carroll travelled to a blitz in Killoe on Friday last. They played teams from St Mel’s and Ardscoil Phádraig. All the plyers got to play a few games and Mr Carroll were impressed with the skills they showed.
LCVP survey
On Thursday, September 26 Mr Carroll’s Leaving Cert LCVP class carried out a town survey. This survey will be part of their LCVP projects.
First year trip to Knock
On Wednesday last, all first year students travelled on a pilgrimage to Knock, Co Mayo. Mass was celebrated by Fr Simon in the Appatition Chapel and afterwards the students divided into groups for a tour of the Shrine- visiting the Bascilica, Museum, Stations of the Cross, Golden Rose, Papal Cross, as well as St John’s Rest and Care Centre. The story of Knock was presented in the prayer centre, before filling the Holy Water bottles and the blessing of religious objects which were purchased in the local shops. The Eucharistic Ministers from Leaving Cert were at hand to steer everybody in the right direction. Thanks to the religion teachers who organised the pilgrimage and travelled with the group.
