Wright: The death took place (peacefully) at his residence Creenagh on Thursday morning of our dear neighbour Billy Wright. To his brothers Freddie (Rathowen) and Johnny(Creenagh), sisters Ann Howard(Creenagh), Carol Corrigan(Rathvilly Co. Carlow) & Rowena Wilson(Pearl River New York), sister -in-law Alice, brothers in law Richard, Ivan and Gary, nephews Sam, Robert, Edward, Thomas, Ruben,& Ethan, nieces, Daphne, Siobhán, Valerie, Sandra, & Jennifer, Numerous cousins, his co-workers in Eircom and his friends in the Vintage Club, his many other friends, and relations, we extend our deepest and sincere sympathy. First Friday: Next Friday is the First Friday – the sick and housebound will be attended as usual. (Ballinamuck on Thursday and Friday).

ABC Childcare: ABC Childcare is now taking bookings for the FREE preschool year under the ECCE scheme & also for the CET’s scheme both commencing in September 2013. School Holidays: All the schools in the area are now closed for the Easter Season. Children will take advantage of the weather if it is good to play outdoors so we ask all motorists to watch out for unsuspecting children playing on all approach roads to towns and villages and to drive with care and caution through these villages during the coming weeks. Let’s have a safe and happy holiday for everyone.

Drumlish Heritage: Drumlish Heritage – History:are hosting two events for the Gathering on 21st and 22nd August next – further details visit The Gathering Ireland Website.

AGM: The AGM of the Guild will take place on Monday night April 8th at 8.30pm. in the Visitors Centre, Ballinamuck. All members are requested to attend and new members are always welcome. Longford Federation ICA are hosting An Information Evening in the 98’ Hall, Ballinamuck, on Thursday April 25th at 7.30pm. Laura Shaw from Longford Garden Centre will attend. Her topics include, Lawn Care, Colour with Perennials and Maintaining your Rose Garden, followed by a Question and Answer session. During the second part of the evening Gary Brady, Environmental Officer with Longford County Council will talk to us about ‘How to use Leftovers’ and ‘Food Wastage’ as part of the “Food Wastage Programme”. Tea and refreshments will be served. A Raffle will be held. Admission €5. Everyone welcome.

Social Dancing: Resumes in Ennybegs Community Centre, on Tuesday 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th from 8pm-10pm. Admission €5 and refreshments served. Craft classes continue every Tuesday morning in St. Mel’s Training Centre, Battery Rd. from 9.30-12.30.

Bingo: In Ballinamuck had a new summer time start of 9pm.All are welcome to attend nightly prize fund €1300 !

Ballinamuck enterprise: A meeting will take place on Wednesday 3rd of April @9pm all members are asked to attend.

Drumlish Tidy Town’s: Table Quiz will take place in Gallagher’s Lounge on  Monday   8th April at 8pm.  


Car Boot - Drumlish Area Enhancement: –  A lot of good seasonal stuff is coming in and we are very grateful.  If you are trying to make space in your garage or shed and have seasonal, recyclable and saleable items that you no longer need or have use for we would be delighted to receive them. Environmental Awareness Day: – Saturday 27th April is a date for your diary at 10.00 am, Drumlish Tidy Town’s will have Environmental Education Officer, Nuala Madigan from the Irish Peatlands Conservation Council, join us for the morning to deliver a workshop introducing biodiversity including habitats of Ireland their flora and fauna as well as managing and enhancing biodiversity.  This will be followed by a walk around the area with the group to begin a biodiversity survey. Each participant will be given guidelines on how to do and prepare a biodiversity  report for the community. There is no charge and there will be much of educational value and we invite anyone who has an interest in ecology, environment to pencil in this date... and bring your children it is an opportunity not to be missed and that may not be repeated for a very long time.


Golf Lessons: County Longford Ladies Golf Club are getting ready a package of 6 Beginner Lessons starting later in March – if you are interested or know of anyone interested contact Annette at 086 8141023. A few basics can add immensely to your game of Pitch and Putt – membership of Club is not necessary for these lessons.

Gala Dinner: 59th Longford-Dublin Association Annual Gala Dinner:  Takes place in the Red Cow Moran’s hotel on Saturday, April 13th, commencing at 8pm sharp. Retired Teachers: The above will hold their AGM on Tuesday April 9th at 11.30 am in Longford Library. Lunch will follow and we then travel to Longford Garden Centre Drumlish Road for 3.00pm where Laura Shaw will give a demonstration and answer questions on all things related to gardening. CAIRN HILL CHALLENGE: Sunday May 5th sees the inaugural staging of the Cairn Hill Challenge Road-races. The event which is based in Drumlish comprises of  a set of 2 different runs utilising Longford’s most significant geographical feature (Cairn Hill) to test the fitness, stamina and endurance of runners, joggers and walkers. First off, at 12.30pm, is the 10 mile race which brings participants through the centre of Drumlish before commencing a testing route which circumnavigates the hill using quiet country roads. The chosen routes feature testing climbs with plenty of down hill stretches to allow tired limbs to recover. 12.45pm sees the start of the 10k event which brings participants from the Village Centre to the base of Cairn Hill  via a series of rolling hills with a perfect mixture of climbs and descents to keep runners,joggers and walkers focused. Both races finish in the Village centre where participants are guaranteed a rousing welcome. The event is AAI certified and will be chip timed. The Cairn Hill Challenge is part of the Drumlish Community Centre 25th Celebrations. centre celebrates 25years: Plans are well on the way for what is promised to be a great weekend of festivities for the may bank holiday weekend 3rd-5th may to celebrate the community centres 25th anniversary and also the gathering 2013. Rehearsals continue on Friday nights at 8pmfor dances and 8:30 for choruses also on Sunday evenings at 6:30 for dances and 7:30 for choruses for our variety concert.
