Football

Our senior football team is preparing to compete in the O’Beirne Cup final. Mr Breslin, Mr Slowey and Mr Murtagh are working hard to prepare our team for the match. Our ladies team has also started training for the football season ahead. This has been long awaited and the school community expects great success with them. Ms Doyle has taken charge of this team as selector, manager and trainer. Our U-14 team will begin their campaign this week. We wish them all the best of luck in their games.

Big Brother Big Sister

The Big Brother Big Sister programme commenced this week. Senior students started their duties as mentors for our first years. The mentors are wearing special turquoise polo shirts with the school crest. This means that the first years can tell who to approach if they need assistance. Each first year has been paired with one of the fifth or sixth years, based on their compatibility.

Aisling Festival project

Our fifth year representatives at this festival will be attending a play, performed in mime by primary school students in Ballinalee. The students will then write a review on the play to provide information on arts and culture in Longford. This is an unusual and exciting part of the project because it hasn’t been done before in Longford.

Leaving Cert projects

Work on the Leaving Certificate projects for Home Economics and Construction has begun. Our sixth years have started on the road towards their exams and they know that they must work as hard as they can on these projects as it counts for a large proportion of the marks in each subject area.

New classrooms

Construction on the new classrooms at the back of our school has commenced this week. It is great to see that our hard work is paying off and that the school’s numbers have greatly increased, which is why our new classrooms are being constructed.
