Novena: The opening of the Solemn Novena to our Blessed Lady commences this Wednesday 24 October at 7.30pm to 8.30pm in St. Mary’s Church Granard.
Crochet for Charity: Crochet classes are commencing on this Wednesday 24 October from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at The Wool Barn Coolarty. The cost per class is €5.00 and classes will run for four weeks. Country Markets: The Friday Market will be held as usual on this Friday 26 October in the Market House Granard with the annual free raffle for Halloween. A wonderful array of bracks and home-baking will be available as always. Spooky Saturday Market at Lus na Gréine Saturday 27 October 11am-1pm. Colouring competition, face painting, pumpkin carving demonstration. Colouring sheets available from Post Office, Library and Lus na Gréine. Christmas Lights: Granard Christmas Lights fundraising draw. Tickets are currently on sale in all premises around town at €5.00 each towards the project. The draw will now take place in Kane’s Bar Granard on Saturday 3 November plus Fancy Dress on the night. Please note change of date. N.B. Due to the lack of interest and attendance of the business people at the meetings it is posing a threat to the survival of the Christmas lights in our town.

Men’s Social Club: Our next meeting will take place on Tuesday 23 October at 12 noon in Rath Mhuire Resource Centre We had a very busy time at our last meeting, Shane Crossan who is working with ‘The Gathering’ project in Longford did a short video with the group about attracting visitors to Longford. We also had the students from Ard Scoil Phadraig visit with us to look at doing an intergenerational project together. Our club provides members with a forum for socialising, acquiring information, and a range of interesting activities. Motte Community Enterprise Ltd. (GMCE): GMCE are delighted to announce, the first major success, in meeting of the target set and selling 500 tickets for the project. This should generate an annual income of almost €50,000 which is a great achievement for all involved. We extend a big ‘Thank You’ to the whole community and in particular to those who supported the project by purchasing the tickets and to everyone who helped in selling the tickets. In parallel we have received Tenders from specialist consultant firm’s to carry out the Feasibility Study and the group is currently in the process of appointing the emerging preferred company. The main work of the study will involve research on the project as a Tourism and Heritage destination; consultation with relevant local, regional and national stakeholders; the preparation of a Business Case Analysis; recommendations on optimisation of site and local area; and funding and financial model projections.
Draw at Public Meeting: Monday 29 October 2012 at 7:00pm in the Community Centre Granard. There will be a public meeting, all welcome, where the first two monthly draws will take place. Over €2,100 in Prize money will be given away on the night to some lucky people! Again a big thank you to all the people involved at local, county, national and internationally levels.

Church Gate Collection: The annual Senior Citizens Christmas party will be held in Lus Na Greine on Sunday 9 December. The organizers will take up a church gate collection at all masses in Granard next weekend 27 and 28 October. The voluntary management committee and staff of Lus Na Greine provide a great party for the Senior Citizens of Granard, Abbeylara and Mullinalaghta areas every year and they will appreciate whatever help you can give in defraying the cost of this. If anyone wishes to make a donation to this they can do so by calling into the centre at anytime.
Minor GAA: Scór na Nóg 2012 / 2013 We would like to encourage all our young talent to consider taking part in Scór this year. The competition offers young people the opportunity to meet up, make friends, have fun and represent their club. There are 8 different events which covers all aspects of Irish culture. 15km Challenge: The Gallant 15km Challenge in aid of St Christopher’s Hospice Cavan takes place Saturday 27 October. Main sponsor is MacManus Pharmacy. Thanks: The Granard Branch of St Christopher’s held a very successful karaoke evening in September and raised €3,222.The winners on the night were: Marie McGauran, Louise Morgan, Mairead O’Hara, and Brian O’Hara. Recent Deaths: The death of Anne Morrissey (nee Maher) Main St. Granard occurred peacefully at her residence on 18 October. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Sunday in St. Mary’s Church followed by burial in Granardkille Cemetery. May she rest in peace.
