Deanery Mass

Deanery Mass

A very memorable Granard Deanery Mass was celebrated in St. Mary’s Church, Granard on Monday night October 21st. The theme was faith and ministery, ordained and laiety and the promotion of vocations in the eight parishes. A very warm welcome was extended to the chief celebrant the newly ordained Bishop Francis Duffy who was introduced by Fr Simon Cadam. Bishop Francis was assisted by a large number of priests from the 8 Deanery parishes – Abbeylara, Ballymachugh, Clonbroney, Colmcille, Dromard, Mullinalachta, Granard and Mullahoran. The Entrance Procession was led by pastoral council representatives from the parishes carrying parish symbols, followed by alter servers and schoolchildren and the Readings and Prayers of the Faithful were read by parish representatives. Following the Mass a social was held in the Community Centre where all had a chance to meet Bishop Francis and round off a very enjoyable evening with music and song.

Mrs Rose Keogh

The death of Mrs Rose Keogh, Oghill, recently, removed from the area one of its oldest and most respected ladies. Rose was aged 93 and was predeceased by her husband Tom 12 years ago along with whom she ran the family farm, working hard and rearing her family and making do as did all of her generation. She had a great sense of humour and kept up to date with all community affairs. She was the typical Irish mother, had a very strong faith and was devoted to her family and was very proud of her grandchildrens achievements. She will be sadly missed by her family, neighbours and many friends. We extend our sincere sympathy to her daughters Breege Moyles, (Ballytrust) and Annamay (Monaghan), sons, Owen, Tommy, Kevin, John and Michael (Oghill), grandchildren, great grandchildren and members of her extended family circle. May she rest in peace.

Church Donations Refund

The local Church Finance Committee wish to point out that under section 848A Consolidation Act a charity (Church) can claim tax refund on donations it receives. In order to reduce the current parish debt they are encouraging PAYE parishioners who have donated money to fill in the appropriate claim forms so this can be dealt with. Forms which were handed out at weekend masses and are also available at church doors should be returned to Rev. Owen Devaney, P.P. Parochial House, Mullahoran, a.s.a.p.
