Mullinalaghta notes

Corr: DP Finnegan. E-mail:

Gowna GAA are refurbishing their main playing pitch with the addition of a walking track including exercise machines and a general upgrade of the facilities. To help with the cost of this project they are running a seated concert in the Hotel Kilmore featuring Emerald Storm on Saturday, 17th October at 8.30p.m. They have decided against going to the local clubs door to door selling tickets on this occasion. They are hoping that the clubs would support their fundraising endeavours and attend the show. Tickets are on sale at the hotel, in local shops or from any club member.

Minor Final

Well done to Northern Gaels on winning Minor ‘A’ Football Championship on Sunday last. In a closely contested encounter at Pearse Park that was in the balance right up to the final whistle they overcame Killoe Óg. Congratulations to Cian Brady who was awarded man of the match. Cian gave an outstanding performance and deserved this accolade. We also compliment the manager Darren O’Connor and selectors Conor McElligott and Sean Murphy.

Thank You

The Longford branch of The Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland wish to thank all who contributed to their recent church gate collection. With the generosity of all, €275 was donated for this worthy cause.

He is also survived by his wife Marian, daughter Aisling, brothers Donal and George to whom our condolences are also extended. May he rest in peace.

Text Alert

Mullinalaghta Text Alert is up and running since 2012. It has been a very successful and very useful service. There are some concerns at the moment that not everyone is receiving text messages in time. A test message will be issued on Saturday, 17th October at 11a.m. Please check that you get the message and that it is on time. Also check with neighbours, family and friends that they are receiving their texts. If you do not receive your text or you do not receive it in time, please contact Bernie Rogers as soon as possible. Every effort will be made to resolve any problems.

Tidy Towns

Last week a summary of the 2015 results were published and we were delighted to report that our overall mark increased by 5 points. This year the adjudicators gave a very detailed report. Copies of same are available at Cloonagh Post Office for anyone interested. It would be very worthwhile to get a copy and have a read. Thank you to everyone who helped out this year. To both adult and child participants in the Village Litter pick-up day. To those who helped plant the flowers, weed the flower beds and water the flowers. To the Community Scheme workers who do an on-going excellent job mowing, strimming, maintaining and painting in the village, graveyard, forest and GAA Grounds. Thank you also to those who support our annual Tidy Town collection. We hope to continue the good work and get even more volunteers to help out in 2016.
