Hair Today Gone Tomorrow
On this Saturday, 21 March, a fundraising night will take place in John V. Donohoe’s Lounge, Granard at 10.00pm. Paula Harkin will have her hair cut off by Lorraine Farrell in aid of the Rapunzel Foundation who make wigs for children who have Leukemia and Alopecia. Money raised will go to the Bereavement Section, Coombe Hospital Dublin who gave the Paula and Pat Cullen great support and help when their daughter Ellen was stillborn in June.
Parish Park Society
St Mary’s Parish Park Society are holding their AGM on this Friday, 20 March at 8pm in the GAA Clubhouse, Higginstown. The meeting is open to all parishioners.
Sunday next, 22 March sees the first ever Bingo event to be held in Granard’s Canon Kelly Community Sports Hall. Proceeds are in aid of the Granard Visitor Centre project. €4,000 in prize money must be won. Bingo starts at 3pm. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

Leinster U-16 League Final
Granard/Ballymore U16s will take on Offaly side St. Broughan’s in the Leinster League Final this Saturday in Higginstown. Throw-in is at 2.30pm. With the game being in Granard, it would be great to see a good crowd out supporting these talented young players.
The Irish Cancer Society provide a number of free services to cancer patients and their families when they need it most. By supporting Daffodil Day we are ensuring that these services can be continued and that no one has to face cancer alone. As I am not available on Friday, 27 March Daffodil Day collections will take place at Super Valu Granard and McBrien’s Supermarket on Thursday 26 March. Any support is much appreciated. Many thanks to Luke Baxer and Fr. Tom Murray who brought a lovely night to Granard Library on Thursday last. We were all reminded of the beautiful songs and talent of John McCormack. All who attended drifted back in time to memories of their own childhood and the atmosphere was one never to be forgotten. Thank you to all concerned for the organising of the night and hopefully there will more nights to come like this.
The AGM of Granard Agricultural Show takes place on Tuesday, 24 March in John V’s Lounge at 9pm, all members are requested to attend and new members very welcome.
A wonderful evening of song; record and music took place in Granard Community Library on Thursday last 12 March. The evening was co-ordinated by Jackie Kennedy from the recently formed Granard Area Historical Society in association with Mary Carlton Reynolds and the staff of Granard Community Library. The event was commemorating the Grand Concert that took place in the Town Hall Granard in 1905 when the world renowned Count John McCormack performed in aid of church funds. Thanks to all concerned for a wonderful entertaining event.

The death has occurred of Brigid Connolly, Morlea House, Battery Road, Longford and Cassina, Coolarty, Granard on Friday, 13 March peacefully at Mullingar General Hospital. Her body reposed at Our Lady’s Manor, Edgeworthstown on Saturday followed by removal to St. Mary’s Church, Granard. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Sunday at 11.30am followed by burial in Granardkille Old cemetery. Sympathy is extended to her aunts uncle cousins relatives and friends. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
