Community Games

Well done to our U12 draughts team on winning the county draughts final on Saturday last. Team members were Ciarán Scanlon, Connor Leonard, Sophie Kiernan Molloy, Liam Fagan and Dylan O’ Reilly. Aoife and Siobhan Leonard were reliable substitutes. They will now represent Longford in Leinster. The U14s squad reached the final also. Representing us were Diarmaid Brady, Adrian Fitzpatrick, Cathal Gilligan, Caoimhe Lynch and Aoibhinn Masterson. Despite some favourable performances in reaching the final they were pipped by Killoe on a score 6-4. Well done guys and we hope to see you all next year. We also had an U10 team out as well. Team members were Michaela O Reilly, Lisa Marie Leonard, Maria Ledwith, James Browne, Dearbhail Lynch, Aisling Scanlon and Aoibhinn Lynch. These young ones played great and after a hard fought game that ended in a draw, they were knocked out on the new rule of discounting the last board score and as we won both games it put us out on a score 5-3. As this was the first time that the boys and girls competed as a team we look forward to seeing them together next year. We thank and compliment Josephine O’ Reilly and John O’ Reilly for their time and effort in coaching the team. Their hard work is working and should prove a big asset with the U12s. We wish them well. Upcoming events include basketball, quiz and futsal competitions. Names are now being taken for basketball in all age groups including boys and girls, U14 quiz team and U13 futsal girls. Anyone wishing their child to take part are requested to contact any member of the community games committee. Alternatively they can book through facebook page.

The annual general meeting of St. Columba’s G.F.C was scheduled for Saturday night last in the clubrooms. Outgoing Chairman Finbar Meehan did not seek re-election. An emergency general meeting has been arranged to take place in the clubrooms for this Friday 24th January at 8.00p.m. Let’s hope the issue will be resolved on this occasion.
