On Saturday last the Northern Gaels under 14 squad took part in the Annual Gowna Blitz and they proceeded to serve up some marvellous football as undaunted, they faced the might of neighbours Mullahoran and they emerged victorious before facing Crosserlough and again they gave an exhibition of how football should be played to come out winners. They then faced Kingscourt in the semi-final and their team work proved too hot for the Kingscourt boys as Northern Gaels powered their way to victory. They faced a strong Gowna team in the final and both teams served up a very entertaining game before a large crowd of supporters. However the physically stronger Gowna team emerged victorious by five points to claim the cup. Great credit is due to the squad and their mentors Paddy, Seamie and Dan and we wish them good luck in the Shield Final against Wolfe Tones. Mullinalaghta were represented by Eoghan Byrne, Cian McElligot, Tom Meehan, Thomas Mooney and Jack Darcy. We would like to thank the Gowna Under Age Club for inviting Northern Gaels into what was a very well organised and enjoyable Blitz.
On Saturday evening last a large contingent of supporters from the parish made the journey to Pearse Park to cheer on the boys in Maroon and White in the quarter final of the Peter Hanley Senior Championship. With Abbeylara the opposition as expected it was a close and tense encounter. With just minutes to go St. Columbas were five points to the good. Perhaps due to the lack of concentration from some of our players Abbeylara fought back to earn a well taken goal and two points. Thus the game finished all square. At time of writing the replay is scheduled for this Saturday evening. Please check fixtures for confirmation of this. We wish the lads good luck.
