Over the weekend gale force winds caused disruption in many areas to both ESB and telephone services but the prompt action of staff saw services restored in record time.

Mrs Lil Higgins

There was shock and sadness throughout the town and district with the news of the very unexpected death of Mrs Lil Higgins, Kilnaleck. Both the deceased and her husband Frank were well known throughout this area where they both enjoyed wide popularity. To her husband and sons John, Jimmy and Michael and her relatives, I extend the sympathy of our community. Deceased was a keen GAA supporter who attended games from schoolboy to senior level all over the district. May her soul rest in peace.


Sympathy is extended to Mr Gussie Moyles, Ballytrust on the unexpected death of his brother in law, Mr David Duffy, Belturbet. May his soul rest in peace. To his wife Patricia, sons and daughters, I extend the heartfelt sympathy of our people.

Accident victim

There was shock and widespread sympathy throughout town and area with the sad news of the death in New Zealand at the early age of 22 years of Mr Martin Cadden, Middletown and which occurred following a motor accident as his car struck a tree near the town of Leeston Canterbury. Deceased who had celebrated his birthday on the Sunday before his death is survived by his parents Michael and Anne and by his two sisters Mary and Roisin and family relatives to whom I extend the heartfelt sympathy of our community. St Joseph’s Church, Loughduff was crowded to capacity on Tuesday for the funeral which took place following con-celebrated mass to the family burial ground. May his soul rest in peace.

End of season

With the town’s Christmas lights now safely stored away until December 2015 and decorations and holly all taken down the festive season has once more come to an end as people prepare for the seasons of Spring and summer which please God will bring happiness and peace to all our families.
