Mission Work

Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Drumlea on last Saturday evening was

celebrated by Fr. Gerard Doyle, a member of the Mill Hill Missionaries, St. Joseph’s, Waterford Rd., Kilkenny. In his sermon he outlined the work which he and his fellow missionaries do in Africa, and asked for the support of the congregation through prayer and monetary subscription. Fr. Doyle is son of former Drumloona resident Kathleen Fitzpatrick.


Sympathy is extended to the members of the Taylor families on the death of Violet’s mother, Mrs. Kathleen Isabella McMahon, Sligo. Her funeral took place on Monday, March 24th following a Service of Thanksgiving, conducted in St. John’s Cathedral, Sligo by Dean Arfon Williams.” Safe in the arms of Jesus”


Drumlea Ladies prevailed over Ardvarney in their Cumann na mBunscol

5-a-side League game last week. The team and scorers were Megan Lavin,

Ella Quinn (0-1), Oníosa Mimna, Siobhán Maguire and Caoimhe Prior (8-5). The subs used were Molly Prior, Caitlin Quinn, Ella Maguire, Lorna McKernan, and Emma McGrath. Thanks is due to the parents who travelled, and looked after the players so well.


The Kilmore Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place from 27th May to 1st June. Bookings for the Pilgrim Section are with McGinnity Travel, Cavan, and for the Assisted Pilgrim Section with Rev Kevin Fay, Lavey, Co. Cavan. Early booking is essential as places are limited. Tickets to support the Assisted Pilgrim Section are on sale. All support will be welcome.

Active Age Group. Sarah Mulligan put the participants through their paces. She will not be in attendance on this Wednesday April 9th, but will be back on the following Wednesday. The date of coach outing to Cork was set for May 25th.

Dust from the Sahara

Motorists especially have noticed a reddish-brown dust on their windscreens and bonnets in the early mornings last week. The dust has travelled a long distance, having been borne from the Sahara Desert by the South and South-East winds.

Recalling April 1992

Pauline O Rourke and Denis Clarke had announced their engagement. The

local Foróige Group ran a Disco to raise funds for Drumreilly Development Company. Marian and Geraldine Mulligan, Rachel Kennedy, Mary McKeon and Karl McCartin were among the winners at the C. R. N. Feis in Boyle. A big crowd enjoyed the Back to School Disco in the Community Centre. The birth of their baby daughter brought joy to Des and Josephine Donegan, Gortahose. Aughavas collected both Division 1 points at Drumreilly’s expense. Drumreilly U-16 team collected full League points in their games against Fenagh, Cloone and Kiltubrid. Drumlea U-21s were beaten by Castlefore Gaels, Drumlea N.S. team was beaten by Aughavas and the Minors were beaten by Carrigallen. Pádraig Holahan played for the Leitrim Minor team. The deaths took place of Johnny McCartin, Ardunsaghan, former Mullaghmore resident Mary Jane McCormack at the resident of her daughter Mary Jane in Drumalt, Arva and Mullaghboy-born Margaret Connolly nee McKiernan, Canada.
