A word of thanks to everyone who helped to make our school mass such a pleasant and reverent occasion. Thanks to Fr O’Sullivan who led the service, to Ms Mellett for preparing the music and hymns, to Ms Macko and all the Religion teachers and to Sr Una Cahill, the diocesan RE advisor. Thanks also to the readers, musicians, singers, servers and all those who participated in the offertory.
Ladies GAA Championships
Best of luck to the Mostrim Ladies in their Intermediate Club Football County Final replay against Rathcline. Congratulations to St Helen’s Ladies, who recorded a fantastic victory over Dreadnots in the first round of the Leinster Junior Club Championship. Commisserations to Killoe Ladies who were narrowly defeated by Seneschalstown in the quarter-final of the Leinster Club Senior Football Championship.
The school like to extend a warm welcome to our two new teachers this year, Ms Grace Bruton and Iníon Ní Fhátharta. We would also like to wish Iníon Ní Chaisil all the best as she departs on maternity leave.
We are now in our third week of the Transition Year programme and already we have had many different experiences, such as dancing, karate and drama. These activities have been allocated individual slots in our timetable this year. We also have Photography and Health and Safety to look forward to. Our bonding trip to the Shannon River Adventure centre proved to be a great success. The kayaking, archery and assault courses were hard work but everyone had a brilliant time and became closer to one another on the trip. We are all eagerly looking forward to the future trips, some of which we have already planned. It has already become clear to us TY students that this will be a great year of hard work, lots of effort and tonnes of fun. It’s true to say that you get out of TY what you put in!
Last week, the first years went down to the Attic Youth Café, where they were invited to become members of the club and were informed about the various exciting activities and committees they can get involved in. The Attic does fantastic work for young people in Longford and is definitely a group worth joining!
Junior Cert results
Congratulations to all the girls who received their Junior Cert results last Wednesday. A special congratulations to Aoife Gordon and Alannah Dolan who each achieved outstanding results. Well done!
A big thank you to everyone who helped out with the coffee morning on Friday last. Thanks must also go, of course, to all the people who contributed to the worthy cause! An estimated amount of €1000 was raised for St Joseph’s Hospice here in Longford.
