County Final

Mulleady Group Intermediate Championship Final: St. Patrick’s v Carrickedmond on Sunday 29th September 2013 at 4pm. All road’s lead to Pearse Park on Sunday next when we take on Carrickedmond in the Intermediate final. This promises to be a great match. A lot of preparation has gone in over the last number of months by our team trainer Liam Keenan. The players have trained hard all year, so on behalf of everyone at St. Patrick’s G.A.A. Club we wish them well and hope the Gerry Hennessy Cup will be returning to Ardagh Village on Sunday evening after a 7 year absence. We hope to see all our supporters out in force on Sunday cheering on the boys in Green and Gold. All Club merchandise ordered over the past week will be ready for collection this Thurday evening in the Pete Keenan Clubroom at 8p.m. Congratulations to St Patrick’s Óg Juvenile team who won the division 2 league final on Saturday last. This is their third final win in the last few weeks


Thanksgiving for Harvest in Church of Ireland over the coming weeks. There will be Harvest thanksgiving Service in the Ardagh Group of Church of Ireland parishes as follows. Sunday September 29th at 3pm in Tashinny Church. Sunday October13th at 3pm in Kenagh Church .There will be special visiting preacher at each service. Both services will be followed by tea. Everybody is welcome. In the words of the lovely hymn “Come, ye thankful people, come raise the song of harvest –home.

The Longford Branch of the Alzheimer Society of Ireland would like to announce that our Church Gate Collection will be held on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th September throughout the county .The money raised will greatly contribute to our continued service in the area.

Harry Farrell Perpetual Trophy

t is with great pride that the Harry Farrell Perpetual Trophy comes to Ardagh after it was won by St. Mel’s National School on Sept 21 at the Primary Schools Cross Country in Moyne. Congratulations to all the young athletes who performed so well in their races and gave a brilliant display of school spirit. Well done to Caitriona Hayden, Sinead Gallagher, Paddy McPhillips & Leslie Finnan for all their organising and training.

Community Games

Will restart their weekly Friday evening Youth Activities on October 4th in the Ardagh Community Centre from 7-8pm. All children from 1st class up to age 15 years are most welcome to come. Table €2 each. Many parents gave very generously of their time last year to take turns supervising so we want to encourage ALL parents to sign up to take turns on a rotating schedule again this year. If many people help then it will only be an occasional night to help out. Contact Michael Hayden or Eamon O’Kane for further details and to sign up. We need you in order to give this weekly opportunity to the children.

Cross Country

Well done to all the children from St Mel’s National School who ran in the Co. Longford Primary Schools Cross Country Championships last Saturday in Moyne. Over 20 children, from 3rd to 6th classes were all out in force. Congratulations to Cian McPhillips & Brendan Finnan who both won gold medals for 1st place in their respective races and to Cathal Farrell & Sarah McPhillips who both won Silver medals for finishing in 2nd place in their races. A total of 7 individual medals were won by the school including Melissa O’Kane, Zoe Kenny & Jack Gallagher. The great news is Longford Athletics Club will host the Connacht Primary Schools Cross Country race on the very same course in Moyne on Saturday October 12th. Children will be coming from Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Roscommon, Leitrim & Longford to run. Both the Girls team and Boys team all from 3rd&4th Classes won 1st place in their races bringing home 2 sets of gold team medals and will progress on to the Connacht race in October. Keep up the training!

Coffee Morning

Thank you to everyone who supported the annual Hospice Coffee morning to benefit Longford Hospice Homecare held last week in the Ardagh Heritage Centre raising €425. Ann Smyth & Annette Corkery were very generous to supply the venue again this year. Well done to Pauline McHale, Majella McQuaide & Leslie Finnan who have kept this tradition active for several years and gave a warm welcome to all who were able to attend.


Portfolio Preparation Classes continue Tuesdays from 7-9pm. €20 per class, new pupils always welcome. Toddler Creativity every Thursday from 11am to 12pm, €5 per child, free tea/coffee for the accompanying adult. Spanish Grind Club for Leaving Cert Cycle recommences on Friday October 4th, 6.30-8pm. €70 for six weeks, €5 towards materials.
