It is hoped to launch a new calendar for 2014 as a run out of the recent Gathering year. The calendar will capture some magical moments from the Gathering year and will be of a very high quality. Should any of the many clubs in the parish like to include dates of their events scheduled for 2014 now is the chance to do so. It would also be a lovely gift for Christmas to send to Family members and friends overseas. The cost of the calendar complete with envelope will be €10. Postage in Ireland will be €1.50 and to the rest of the world, €3.30. For any further details contact Brian 086 2596656 or, Pat 086 8433355 or Kevin 087 1375222 or Please remember if you wish to have club events etc. included, it is necessary to make contact now. We assure you the quality will be exceptional due to the input of Tony Tighe.

Boherquill Ramblers

he Ramblers met at the Mart in Ballymahon for a loop walk taking in a section of the Royal Canal near the town on Sunday November 10th. They headed out of the town on the N55 Edgeworthstown road to Ballybrannigan, then took the side road to the Canal at Ballybrannigan Harbour, passing a beautifully preserved thatched cottage on the way. The original stone Chaigneau Bridge over the Canal at the harbour is still in use as is the passage-boat ticket office which was recently restored by the Royal Canal Amenity Group. The group turned west along the towpath and were greeted by several dozen mallard ducks on the water, all clamouring for titbits. Unfortunately the Ramblers weren’t able to oblige the ducks so the two parties went their separate ways with the Ramblers continuing along the towpath to the new bridge which carries the Ballymahon to Lanesborough road over the Canal. Two kilometres of straight road brought the group back to the centre of Ballymahon and their cars at the Mart. Tea, biscuits and scones were shared before the Ramblers left for home. The Ramblers will walk in Newcastle Forest near Ballymahon on Sunday November 24th. Cars will leave Boherquill at 1.30pm and meet at the bridge in the Forest at 2pm.
