Pope Benedict XVI: We keep in our prayers at this time Pope Benedict who is to retire on Thursday.

Ballinamuck ICA: The monthly meeting of the Guild will take place on Monday night March 4th at 8.30pm sharp in the Visitors Centre, Ballinamuck.
Kathleen Rooney will attend to talk to us about Patchwork for beginners. All members please attend and new members are always welcome.
At our February meeting a vote of sympathy was passed with Anna May McNamee, Guild President, on the recent death of her nephew, Sean Mulleady, Creenagh. R.I.P. The Federation Lotto Draw took place on Wednesday February 13th in Legan. Numbers drawn: 7 11 21 26. The Jackpot of €500 was won. Winner Sheila Corrigan, Gaigue, Ballinamuck. Next draw will take place on Wednesday February 27th in Legan. Jackpot now stands at €100. Craft Classes continue each Tuesday morning in St. Mel’s Training Centre, from 9.30 to 12.30. Classes are free and members and non-members can attend. Social Dancing Classes every Tuesday evening in Ennybegs Community Centre, from 8pm-10pm. Admission €5 and refreshments are served. National Recruitment Day is taking place on Saturday 2nd of March. Longford Federation will have promotional tables in Tesco and Super-Value shopping malls. Tidy Towns:  The annual Spring Clean starts on Saturday morning 9th March at 10.00 – we look forward to welcoming new volunteers on board and starting the new season with energy and vigour. We thank sincerely Eamon Connell for his help recently with the mini-digger preparing our new site. The  Easter Egg Draw cards are in the shops and round about... we need your support more than ever this year and thank you in advance. Committee meeting this Thursday at 7.30pm in Community Centre.

Macra na Feirme: A meeting for anyone aged between 17 and 35 who are interested in meeting new people, getting  involved in sports, travel, debating, or just having fun will be held in The Clubhouse, Monaduff, Drumlish on Thursday Feb 28th at 8pm with a view to set up a Macra na Feirme Club for North Longford. All welcome. 

Bingo: Bingo continues every Tuesday night in the 98 hall @8.30 ,nightly prize fund of €1300 !.Fun for all ages .

Ballinamuck National School: Ballinamuck National School enrolment for new entrants will commence from 4th February 2013 to 28th February 2013.

Enrolment forms can be collected from the school office.

Gaelscoil Longfoirt: Open Day and Enrolment for all classes will take place on Saturday 2nd March 2013 from 1pm -3pm. We would be delighted to personally meet with you and to take you around the school to see for yourself the quality of provision we offer. Also accepting pre-enrolments for September 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Table Quiz: The annual Ballinamuck twinning quiz takes place in Friday the 8th of March @9pm in Dillons Bar & Bistro .Table of four only €40 . Everyone welcome. Please support.

Yoga Classes: Yoga Classes start in Monaduff on Tuesday the 26th of February. This is a 6 week course. Contact 087-2868254 for details. Bring a mat. Active age and over 50’s Boys and Girls 6 week course starting in ’98 Memorial hall on Saturday morning 2nd March @ 11.00am. Gentle breathing and stretching exercises and winding down with some relaxation in the chair or on your mat. Contact the above number for details and to book your place.

Community Centre celebrates 25years: Our American tea party was a huge success in the Village inn last weekend. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Tom Cassidy and staff for the use of the facilities, everyone who came along and supported the event. Seamus Kane for donating the tea, coffee, sugar and milk, the chipper for dropping in pizza’s. Also thank you to the following for donating spot prizes Centra, Paul Byrons, Drumlish Stores, Loughrey’s chemist, Village flowers, Bent Elbow, Holly Blue, Michael Cooney, Barbara Niblock and Mary Gillooley. Rehearsals continue on Fridays nights at 8:30 and Sunday night at 7:30 in the Community Centre for the variety concert. Come along and join in the fun.

Baptisms: Diarmuid Seán Kelly, son of John & Siobhán, Mill St. and Annabelle Gill daughter of John and Aleksandra were baptised and welcomed into the Faith family of Drumlish Parish last weekend. We congratulate their parents also.

St. Helen’s Club: St. Helen’s Development Training for all girls aged 6 – 14 in the Parish will start up again this Tuesday evening 26th February in Drumlish Community Centre. All players are welcome and new members also welcome.

Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes: The Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes takes place from 27th May to 1st June – 5 nights. Cost is €699 al inclusive. Booking forms are available from Fr. Ber. For further details see poster on Church notice board.

Fine Gael: Drumlish Branch will hold their AGM in Gallagher’s Lounge Monday night 4th March at 9pm. Ballinamuck Branch will hold their AGM in the Interpretive Centre on Monday night March 4th at 8pm. All members welcome. New members especially welcome. Deputy James Bannon TD and local councillors will attend.

Recent Death: Pat Joe Cassidy - Deepest Sympathy is extended to Aiden & Siobhán Conlon, Delvin & Breanrisk on the recent death of Siobhán’s father - Pat Joe Cassidy, Corlough, Cavan. Sympathy also to his wife Delia, grandchildren Helen, Seán, Ciara and Evan, his brothers and sisters-in-laws and a large circle of relations and friends. May he rest in peace.

Brendan McCann (Brian): The death has occurred of Brendan (Brian) McCann of Aughnamaddo, Drumlish, Longford,peacefully at home in the loving care of his brother Michael (Mick), sister-in-law Anne and their family. Dear son of the late Ellen (née Gregg) and Patrick. To his brothers Michael (Mick), James, Peter, and Patrick (USA), sisters Mary Moloney, Margaret (Maggie) Corrigan, Rosaleen (Bell) Mulkerrins, darling uncle of Maureen McCann-Courtney, Sheila McCann – Bohan and Michael McCann, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law nieces, nephews grandnieces, grandnephews in USA cousins relatives and friends we extend our deepest and sincere sympathy.

CHURCH GATE COLLECTION: Gaels Utd FC would like to thank everyone who supported the Annual Church gate collection at Drumlish and Ballinamuck masses at the weekend. This support is greatly appreciated by all in our club. Thanks to all who helped out especially Kay Culliney for her time.


CAIRN HILL CHALLENGE: As part of the 25th Anniversary Celebrations for Drumlish Community Centre, Gaels Utd FC will host a 10km road race on Sunday May 5th. A unique feature of this event will be the “Cairn Hill Challenge” as participants will have the option of running/walking/crawling! to the top of this historic North Longford landmark. This is truly going to be a great event and is open to runners, walkers, young and old.  More details will be announced later. Online registration can be made at
