A family resource centre in north Longford is to share in €1.2m government led investment aimed at supporting almost 30 LGBTI+ community service based projects across the country.
Lus Na Greine Family Resource Centre has been allocated €10,000 for its 'This is ME' programme.
Midlands-North-West MEP Maria Walsh gave her backing to the news, saying the funding would help in the development of rural community infrastructure to be inclusive and welcoming of LGBTI+ persons.
“There have been far too many examples of exclusion, abuse and hate crimes against the LGBTI+ community this year and this announcement is a positive step in the right direction,” she said.
“Every LGBTI+ person should feel safe, secure, welcome, visible and included in their communities, villages, towns and cities. This is a basic human right and one that is often taken for granted.
Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, Roderic O’Gorman, announced the funding today, with 27 projects benefiting under the 2022 LGBTI+ Community Services Funding Call.
Grants of up to €100,000 are being allocated to successful organisations.
