North Longford community saddened by death of Tessy Kiely
There was a sense of sadness across the community of Mullinalaghta on Sunday, November 6 when word spread of the passing of Tessy Kiely (née Mooney), Leitrim, Dring, Co Longford.
Tessy was in her ninety-third year and was the daughter of James and Molly Mooney of Bawn, Mullahoran.
She emigrated to England at the age of eighteen and met Paul Kiely, a native of County Limerick, where they married and settled in Rugby, Warwickshire for many years before they returned to Ireland in 1985, originally living in Castlepollard before building a house in Mullinalaghta next to her nephew Séamus in 2009.
Tessy was bereaved by the loss of Paul in 2010 but remained living close to her family in Leitrim. She was a lady of great faith and refined tastes who maintained a welcome for all visitors to her home and took a great interest in the welfare of her nieces and nephews both in Ireland and abroad.
Although in poor health for the last couple of years she was well looked after by her extended family and by always helpful home care workers.
Tessy was predeceased by her parents, her husband Paul, brother Tommy (Leitrim), and sisters Peggy, Kate (both England) and Maya (Wisconsin) and is survived by her sisters Betty Daly (Castlepollard), Winnie Glappa (Florida), brother-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, neighbours and a large circle of friends.
Her funeral took place on Tuesday morning, November 8 at 11am in St Columba’s Church, with Fr Michael Bannon PP celebrating the Requiem Mass assisted by Fr Séamus McKeon and Fr Peter Beglan, before travelling to Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam dílis.
