Longford Sports Partnership celebrated International Women’s Day on Tuesday, March 8 with a day of sports events in St Mary’s Campus, Edgeworthstown.

Coinciding with Sport Week 2022, the event celebrated women’s participation in sport with almost 100 transition year girls taking part.

Longford schools participating included Cnoc Mhuire Secondary School and Ardscoil Phádraig in Granard, Moyne Community College, Lanesboro Community College and Mercy Secondary School, Ballymahon. The activities included yoga, pella, teamwork skills and functional fitness classes.

Creating awareness and celebrating women and girls in sport, throughout the day participants were reminded to support one another to participate in sporting opportunities.

All tutors on the day were female, helping highlight the role of women in playing, coaching, officiating, volunteering, and working in sport. Students discussed their role models for young women in sport and all girls received a #WomenInSportIRE t-shirt.

Longford Sports Partnership wishes to thank Laura Doyle from Sports Hub Edgeworthstown and all tutors that took part in this empowering and uplifting day.

Everyone can help accelerate progress for women in sport. Longford Sports Partnership pledges to provide opportunities for women to participate in sport and to promote women in sport.

Check out what is happening on Longford Sports Partnership’s Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Longfordsports.ie for upcoming opportunities for women in sport.
