Judge Conal Gibbons has told a man he must pay €400 to the State after failing to settle the tax arrears on his car when stopped by gardaí last year.
Thomas Keenan, 82 Ardnacassa Avenue, Longford received the monetary penalty following an incident at Mullolagher, Longford on June 4 2018. Garda Aiden Lenehan said he had stopped the defendant at around lunchtime while in control of a blue Ford Focus.

The Longford based garda said the tax on the vehicle has expired in December 2016 and gave Mr Keenan a month to settle the required arrears on it. He said Mr Keenan failed to undertake his request and later issued him with a summons.
He added the loss to the public exchequer was approximately €324 and despite the arrears having since been settled, that was only done when the summons was issued.
Judge Gibbons handed down a €400 fine, affording Mr Keenan four months in which to meet those terms.
