Longford County Council's Head of Finance John McKeon.
Councillors in Longford town are working well as a team, as was evident from a brief discussion between the local representatives at a recent meeting of Longford MD.
The councillors took a brief break from the meeting's agenda to compliment council executive members on their hardwork, and to note that MD and executive members are working well as a team.
The discussion came about after Cllr Gerry Warnock expressed his delight at funding of one million euro for the regeneration project in Longford town, noting that it would have “a seismic impact” on the town.
“I think, all in all, I want to personally thank John McKeon who is personally involved with the work group and the regeneration committee and he’s always been a key driver of positive projects in the town,” said Cllr Warnock.
“But also the fact that we’ve been listened to - the members. How many times have we sat here and identified problems, particularly with the market square, and the ambition we should have for the market square?
“I think we should be very proud of ourselves as members of the municipal district that we did have the foresight to identify problems around the town.
“And it’s great to have an executive through John that’s able to work with the members here in order to run this amount of funding and I think it has to be acknowledged at Municipal District level.”
Head of Finance for Longford County Council John McKeon, expressed his sincere thank for Cllr Warnock's kind words, stressing that “it’s a team effort” and “everybody is involved”.
Cllr Warnock's words were met with unanimous agreement from the other councillors in attendance.
“It does feel like a team,” said a delighted Cllr Peggy Nolan.
“We’re not talking in a vacuum here and that’s what’s really important. We all have our own priorities, but everyone is listened to.”
