A man who was found “staggerring from side to side” in the middle of the day on Longford's Main Street while under the influence of alcohol has been convicted and fined over the incident.

Brendan Kelleher (30), Drumlish Hill, Drumlish was arrested and later charged after being stopped by gardaí at 2:25pm last Monday week (February 12).

When gardaí arrived at the scene, the court was told Mr Kelleher was both unsteady on his feet and unsure as to his whereabouts.

Defence solicitor John Quinn said his client had been in attendance at a family law court sitting earlier that day.

Judge Seamus Hughes consequently fined Mr Kelleher €200, giving him three months to pay.
