The suspect was arrested a short time after officers arrived at the scenes
A man arrested and charged by Gardaí in connection with arson attacks on five vehicles parked in five different residential areas in Longford town on December 27 is due to appear in the local district court.
The vehicles were set alight after 5am on the day in question outside five houses where members of the same family live in Ardnacassa Avenue, Palace Crescent, Ardeevan, Lisbrack Road and Canal Court.
Units of Longford Fire Service and Gardaí responded to the scenes with firefighters quickly putting out the fires.
There were no injuries to any of the residents living in the houses or any neighbours or members of the public and officers arrested a man in connection with the incident a short time after the alleged incident.
A Garda spokesman said, "Gardaí arrested a man in connection with their investigation into criminal damage by fire to vehicles in Longford in the early hours of Saturday, 27th December 2025.
"The man, aged in his 30s, was subsequently charged and is due to appear before Longford District Court later this month."
