There has been widespread praise for Longford's Community Policing Unit who over Christmas delivered special gifts to local honorary Little Blue Heroes Gardaí.

Little Blue Heroes is a not-for-profit charity that supports the families of children with serious illnesses and conditions by not only providing practical and financial aid but also fulfilling children's dreams for becoming honorary Gardaí.

Pictured here is Longford's Garda Anthony Scanlon and Sergeant James Rowan delivering a festive gift pack, known as 'Sarah's Christmas Gift', to Honorary Garda Jonathan Safiak.

Sarah's Christmas Gift includes Tesco vouchers for groceries, vouchers for toys, and ‘Yule Fuel’ vouchers for petrol/diesel as many of the children with serious illness have hospital appointments throughout Christmas.

The Christmas gift packs - which are named after Little Blue Hero, Sarah Robinson, who passed away in 2019, following a battle with cancer - are delivered in December by Community Gardaí across the country who act as buddy Gardaí to the Little Blue Heroes during the year.

There was plenty of praise for the work of the Community Policing Unit in Longford after the photo of Garda Scanlon, Sgt Rowan and Honorary Garda Safiak was posted online.

One user wrote, "Fabulous picture and great work by the community police officers. They do a fantastic job."

Another posted, "They are wonderful men, God bless them and save them. They don't get half enough thanks."
