A man appeared at Longford district court yesterday, Tuesday, charged in connection with the death of Brigid Maguire in Ballynacargy last Saturday.
Danny Keena (53), Empor, Ballynacargy, Mullingar appeared before Judge Seamus Hughes charged with the murder of Brigid Maguire at 2 Main Street, Ballynacargy, Co Westmeath on November 14 last.
Detective Sergeant Brian Willoughby told the court that the accused was charged in respect of the matter at Mullingar Garda Station and his reply after caution was “nothing to say”.
The court heard that the DPP had directed that the accused be returned for trial to the Central Criminal Court and the State’s application was that Mr Keena be remanded in custody to appear at Harristown District Court next Friday.
The accused appeared before the court dressed in dark trousers and blue fleece.
On the request of the his solicitor Trish Cronin, Judge Hughes directed that Mr Keena be psychiatrically assessed while in custody.
