The Arva Show was great for families, as well as having plenty of competitions and entertainment
The Arva Show, which took place on Sunday, June 27, turned out to be another highlight to Longford’s summer calendar. With emphasis on community and bringing joy to its attendees, the secretary, Alannah Finnegan, spoke highly of the turnout.
“The show went really well overall. We had great weather and a great crowd. We had great interests, like people watching and participating in the competitions.”

Believing the crowd numbers to be similar to last year, estimated to be around 2,500 people overall, with plenty of families, the Arva Show was a busy day for everyone from Longford, Cavan, Arva and further destinations.
In relation to what brought plenty of interest, Alannah explained what she observed to be a highlight:
“The jiving competition was well observed and watched, and I enjoyed seeing that happening. The Rurals, a local band, were playing on the big trailer for that. Then we had the All-Ireland finals. We had entries all around Ireland. One was in home preserves and another in junior crafts–a Lego competition for under 13s.”
“The weather was just about fine until half 3. The All-Ireland started at the big stage. Some people went for cover, some stayed, and some went home to enjoy the game. We were hosting our Supreme champion competitions at the time. We had a dedicated few stay for that.”
Alannah explained that, like most committees, the Arva Show committee will be taking August off. In that time, they have volunteer appreciation days, like a BBQ, and it is the opportunity to let members enjoy the rest of the summer. Ideas for 2026 have already been happening, whether that be what went well on Sunday to take note of, or inspirations from other shows in the community that have been successful.

“I'd like to just give a thank you from the show committee to all the sponsors, exhibitors and attendees on the day, as well as the volunteers. It’s a community event, and it’s thankfully supported by everyone.”
