Sinn Féin TD for Longford-Westmeath, Sorca Clarke, said she is deeply alarmed by the findings of a recently released report, which reveals an increase in the proportion of cases involving sexual assault by two or more individuals.
The details were outlined in the latest annual research document from the state’s Sexual Assault Treatment Units.
Deputy Clarke stated, “The report found one in 10 people attended sexual assault treatment units last year. This is a horrifying development.

“It reflects a deepening failure by this government to prevent escalating violence against women and vulnerable individuals.
“Group sexual assault is a brutal and traumatising crime. The rising prevalence of such cannot be met with silence or delay.
Deputy Clarke insisted this crisis did not come out of nowhere.
"It is the result of years of political complacency, lack of funding, and a justice system that too often silences survivors instead of delivering accountability.

“It reflects a deepening failure by this government to prevent escalating violence against women and vulnerable individuals.
“This week’s figures are yet another wake-up call for government that demands urgent attention and meaningful action.”
Deputy Clarke stated it is not just a justice issue.
"It is a cultural reckoning. What do we accept? What do we excuse? And who do we protect?
“Sinn Féin stands with survivors, and we will continue to push for a system that does not just respond to sexual violence but works every day to prevent it," she concluded.
