Deputy Micheál Carrigy: ‘These investments are vital for delivering modern, accessible healthcare and disability services in Longford’
Several key healthcare infrastructure projects in Longford and investment to the tune of almost €8.5 million is included in the HSE Capital Plan.
Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD published the Health Service Executive’s Capital Plan for 2025 and it is set to bring a transformative investment of €8.45 million to Longford, as part of a record €1.33 billion allocated nationally for the development and enhancement of healthcare infrastructure.
Longford TD Micheál Carrigy said the plan outlines important investment in local services that will directly benefit patients and service users across the county.

“This is a welcome step forward for Longford,” he said. “The projects listed will improve access to services, modernise facilities, and enhance support for both physical and mental health in the community.”

St Joseph’s Care Centre
Among the Longford-specific projects included in the HSE Capital Plan is the refurbishment of the existing building and infrastructure services at St Joseph’s Care Centre.
The refurbished centre will continue to accommodate dental services, orthodontic and ophthalmology services, Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar (MRHM) Outpatient Department clinics – including Paediatrics, Gynaecology, and Surgery.

The works will also include an increase in the number of bookable clinic rooms, helping to expand service capacity.
Ashford House, Longford
A new 9-bedded High Support Hostel is planned, with all rooms designed as single en-suite units. The new facility will replace the existing Ashford House Hostel and a site for the development has already been secured on the Dublin Road, Longford
Deputy Carrigy concluded, “These investments are vital for delivering modern, accessible healthcare and disability services in Longford. This means direct investment in Longford, and this is welcome news that will help bring healthcare services closer to home and better meet the needs of patients and families.
