Longford County Council
A Fianna Fáil representative has called on the local authority to assess the possibility of providing a footpath on the R392 from Peter Hanley Motors in Terlicken to the entrance of the Royal Canal Greenway.
Councillor Pat O'Toole submitted the motion at the recent meeting of Ballymahon Municipal District.
“People go for their daily walk and it is a very dangerous spot.”
The motion was seconded by Councillor Sean Mimnagh and unanimously supported by the public representatives.

Cllr O'Toole said he had been hoping that funding may be available under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.
However, he was informed that the deadline had passed for this year.
Area Engineer Brian McNeela stated an applicationfor funding could be made through the regeneration section.
Cllr O'Toole said a small section of land had to be purchased before the project could proceed.

“We will get everything ready for the next round of funding,” he added.
He stated the footpath is urgently needed as it is a dangerous area and the works would improve safety considerably for pedestrians and all road users.
