Outside the Carrowroe reservoir following the upgrade
The upgrade of a county Longford reservoir will futureproof water supplies for the next three decades, according to Uisce Éireann.
The water utility said it is pleased to announce the completion of upgrade works on Carrowroe reservoir in County Longford.
Uisce Éireann stated this significant infrastructure improvement project has successfully eliminated all leaks in the reservoir, saving approximately 151,000 litres of water per day.
This amount is equivalent to the average amount of water used by 1,135 people per day.
The water utility said the refurbishment of the old concrete structure will not only enhance the security and resilience of the water supply but will also benefit over 4,700 residents in Newtowncashel, Lanesborough, Killashee, and surrounding areas south of Longford town.
This upgrade will support social and economic development in the region for years to come.
Speaking about completing the Carrowroe reservoir upgrade, Noel Gibbons, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, said, "This upgrade will help futureproof water supplies in the area for the next 30 years.
