The defendant and a relative were present at an apartment that was searched by officers
A man who is already serving a jail term for a separate offence and was caught with €1,000 worth of drugs will not serve any additional time in prison.
Robbie Delaney (35) of Riverhouse B&B, Gweedore Rd, Dungloe, county Donegal, pleaded guilty at the local district court to being in posession of the drugs and having them for sale or supply at a premises on August 1, 2020.
Sergeant Enda Daly said Longford Divisional Drugs Unit obtained a warrant and searched a residence at Cuirt An Oir, Athlone Road, Longford and the defendant and a relative were present at the apartment.

"In the course of the search cannabis to the value of €1,000 was seized, neither party would admit ownership of same," he said. "The defendant was sitting at a table with cannabis on it when Gardaí entered yet he denied any knowledge of the cannabis."
Sgt Daly said the majority of cannabis was found in plastic bags at the rear of the sofa and the occupants were arrested.
Mr Delaney is currently serving a 10-month jail term in Castlerea Prison that was handed down at Longford Circuit Court on January 14, 2025 for a robbery.

The defendant had 39 previous convictions.
Solicitor John Quinn, defending, said his client exonerated the other party in relation to the cannabis by "taking full responsibility" for the offence.
"He might have been slow to do it, but he did it," he added.
Mr Quinn said his client had been a second year college student in Letterkenny before he went to prison.
"He is trying to better himself and get into gainful employment when he gets out. He is putting his hands up to the situation and he is hoping after this sentence to come out clean," he added.
Judge Bernadette Owens decided to impose a five month sentence, which will run concurrently to his existing sentence, and will result in no extra time in prison.
