Woman rushing for job interview fined by Longford judge for parking in disabled bay

The defendant, a mother of three , said she was extremely regretful

A woman, who parking in a disabled bay without a permit and claimed she was rushing for a job interview, has been convicted and fined.

Karen Brogan (34) of Vesnoy Estate, Strokestown, county Roscommon pleaded guilty at Longford District Court to the driving-related offence.


Sergeant Enda Daly said Gardaí observed the vehicle in the disabled parking bay without a permit at Townparks, Longford on February 17, 2024.

A fixed charge penalty notice fine was issued to the defendant but it went unpaid.


Ms Brogan had 32 previous convictions.


Solicitor Frank Gearty said his client, a mother of three , was extremely regretful and he stated her previous convictions, were 'ancient history'.

Mr Gearty said Ms Brogan is a part-time cleaner who is hardworking and usually law-abiding.


"She was doing a job interview and in a panic and stress to find a parking spot and she parked in a disabled bay," he added.

Judge Bernadette Owens said it was poor judgement by the defendant who should have known better.


She convicted her and imposed a fine of €300 with three months to pay.
