Independent councillor Joe Conway will now have to vacate his seat on Waterford City and Council
Independent Waterford Councillor and Longford native Joe Conway has been elected from the Cultural and Educational Panel to Seanad Éireann following a recount.
Cllr Conway, who will now have to vacate his seat on Waterford City and Council, was elected on the 19th count after he surpassed outgoing Fianna Fáil Senator Lorraine Clifford-Lee to take the seat.
The original result was affirmed following a recount which was requested by Ms Clifford-Lee. Cllr Conway continued to have the fifth-highest number of preferences after Clifford-Lee’s votes were distributed.
