Longford student awarded Gemma McGee Memorial Bursary

Congratulations to Catherine Cadam, Gelsha who recently was awarded a Gemma McGee Memorial Bursary.  

Catherine is currently studying Physiotherapy in UCD.  

This bursary is presented in memory of 24 year old Gemma McGee, Smear who contracted the W strain of meningitis and passed away within a couple of days of becoming ill.

Gemma’s parents  Rosaleen and John along with her three brothers John, Darren and Niall attend the annual presentation in Moyne Community School as well as representatives from TECK, the company where Gemma worked. The family, supported by TECK and a local fundraising committee, have raised funds towards the Gemma Mc Gee Memorial Bursary Award.  

Every year, three students from the Leaving Cert class of Moyne Community School will be awarded a bursary of €1,000 each towards the cost of going to college.
