North Longford glamping tourism project development receives planning green light

The proposed application relates to the construction of a glamping and camping accommodation site

Longford County Council planners have granted permission for a tourism project by one of Longford's top public houses.

Dillons Bar & Bistro, Ballinamuck, Longford lodged the planning application with the local authority planners about a proposed tourism project back in June.

The popular Longford hostelry is located in the heart of the historic village of Ballinamuck.

The proposed application relates to the construction of a glamping and camping accommodation site.

The plans consist of the proposed installation of six glamping pod accommodation units, camper van and caravan bays, landscaping, a children's outdoor play area and on site car parking.

To accommodate the development the plans seek permission for proposed connections to the existing services on site, such as wastewater, water and surface water.

The report says “it is the policy of the council to facilitate the development of high-quality tourist accommodation such as hotels, hostels, B&B’s / guesthouses, camping and glamping at suitable locations, in both urban and rural settings throughout the county”.

As part of the application the local authority sought details on accessibility, including pedestrian, cycle and public transport provisions and linkages to the proposed development, an outline of the provision of cycle facilities, the impact on traffic movements and car parking and the submission of a Flood Risk Assessment for the proposed development.
The local authority planners approved the application subject to 14 conditions.
