A very cold and frosty night on the way

A Yellow Low/Temperature/ Ice Warning has been issued for most of Ireland today as temperatures are expected to plummet.

The warning is in place for Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Munster, Connacht, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Offaly and Westmeath from 8pm this evening until 11am on Wednesday morning.

Temperatures are set to drop to -3 degrees or lower with sharp to sever frost forming with icy stretches.

Tomorrow will be dry with overnight mist, fog and frost stubborn to clear some areas. Sunny spells developing in parts. Cold with highest temperatures 1 to 6 degrees, coldest across the western half of the country, in a light northeast breeze.

Another calm, cold and frosty night is expected to follow on Wednesday night with widespread fog. Lowest temperatures of -3 to 0 degrees.

Once again frost will clear through the morning on Thursday, and fog will linger in some areas throughout. It will be calm and rather cloudy, with some patches of light rain or drizzle at times. Cold with highest temperatures of 2 to 7 degrees.

Calm but misty or foggy in places on Thursday night, along with frost where skies clear. There will be some showers too. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees.
