Planning permission has been granted for the construction of an outdoor sauna with changing rooms and all ancillary site works in north Longford.

Firecracker Sauna Limited is to develop the project at Leebeen Park, Rathmore, Aughnacliffe.

In mid September, Firecracker Sauna Limited lodged their proposed plans with Longford County Council and planners decided to give the outdoor sauna the green light with 12 conditions attached.

The eco-friendly wellness facility is designed to provide a unique and sustainable sauna experience on the serene shores of Lough Leebeen in North Longford.

The project will consist of a wood-fired sauna and a separate structure for two changing stalls and a reception.
The sauna is intended to be a wellness facility offering sauna sessions to the public, with a focus on relaxation, health, and connection with nature.
It is designed to be both a tourist attraction and a community resource, enhancing the local tourism offering while providing a unique recreational activity.
The sauna will be accessible via a the boardwalk on the shore of Lough Leebeen and controlled through an online booking system.
Visitors will be required to book their sessions in advance, ensuring a controlled and manageable flow of guests.

A receptionist will be on-site during opening hours to confirm bookings, manage access, and monitor the operation of the sauna, including maintaining optimal temperature levels.
