The civic offices that Longford County Council have been seeking have been included in the 2025 Budget.

The Civic Cultural Community offices have been sought by the Council for many years now.

According to the budget which was presented by John McKeon, Director of Finance & ICT the construction of the offices is to be commenced by the end of the council’s term in 2029.

Leas Cathoairleach Peggy Nolan praised Mr McKeon on the inclusion of the civic building in the plan.

“I’m very excited.

“Absolutley we need civic new civic offices.

“We have staff spread all over the town, It’s not fair on them, it’s not fair on the executive and look at the work that's being done despite the hindrance in the fact that the staff are disjointed in different places,” remarked Cllr Nolan.

The Longford County Council has multiple buildings spread throughout Longford Town. The Civic office building will allow all council staff to be in one place.

“We have to carry on the work under one roof.”

Cllr Paul Ross felt the same, “It’s a challenge to our management team to get a plan for civic offices in Longford County.

“Which I think could be a regeneration project for the whole county.”

Cathaoirleach, Mark Casey agreed with the two, “We’re too disjointed here, you’re on one end of the town and the other end of the town.

“We need to get a civic building we need to make it a nice modern building for our town.”
