The defendant who was barred from entering Longford was given leave to enter in order to collect social welfare
A young man accused of assault who is barred from entering Longford was given leave to enter the county for social welfare appointment at last week's sitting of Longford District Court.
Willie McGinley (22) with an address at 5 Glack View, Longford, is charged with a Section 3 assault, alleged to have occurred outside Gala Service Station, Dublin Road, Longford on June 11.
It's alleged Mr McGinley assaulted Jim Hannifin after the defendant got into an altercation with Mr Hannafin and his brother Denis Hannifin.

Mr McGinley's bail conditions stated that he must reside outside County Longford. His solicitor, Fiona Baxter, applied to have the conditions amended to allow her client attend any social welfare appointments in Longford town.
Gardaí had no objections to the application, on the basis that the defendant provided documentary proof and informed them of any appointment in advance.
Sergeant Enda Daly said it was hoped the DPP would have a decision on how to progress with the matter in the next two weeks.
